Module 6 is less concerned with
the introduction of new skills and knowledge than with the consolidation
of learning introduced in previous modules: building commitment
to key manufacturing and disciplines and illustrating how all
of the key facets of the management role fit together. Broadly
based on approaches used to demonstrate Workshop Management Principles
to Japanese Managers, 7XR consists of a practical simulation of
the planning, trial, launch and continuous improvement of manufacturing
products, processes and facilities in accordance with the best
practice principles.
It is a practical and highly participative
programme with tutorial input amounting to no more than 20% of
the programme time. Emphasis is very much upon the participants
learning from their own experience of success and failure as they
endeavour to improve their manufacturing performance.
Competing teams each make the same
product to the same engineering specifications and the same quality
standards. Each team is supported by the course presenter.
The competitive nature of the programme
and the efforts of the teams to continually improve products and
processes reinforce the main principles of Workshop Management.
